Garfield Super Block - Play Area, Promenade & Comfort Station Renovation

Updated: July 19, 2022

Summer 2022

The Garfield Super Block Renovation Project wants to know how the community would prefer to use this sport court. Please take the Garfield Super Block Sport Court survey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HM7MGMW and provide your input. Thank you. And read on to learn more about many other aspects of this project.

This community-led full renovation project will address the unfinished portion of the 2005 Garfield Super Block Master Plan: grounds improvements within the park to strengthen site use and activity, and a "Legacy and Promise Promenade" which integrates arts and amenities to reflect the cultural diversity and rich history of Seattle's Central District.

The Garfield Super Block Coalition is a volunteer community organization that seeks to fulfill this 15-year-old promise. Grounds improvements include installation of new site furnishings; improved ADA access; play equipment; nature trails play elements; a restroom facility with attached community space and a covered picnic area; a circular pathway with lighting, the City of Seattle’s only formal Parkour element; green stormwater infrastructure throughout; boulder walls and seating; a multi-use court reconfiguration to include basketball and landscaping improvements throughout.

The Legacy and Promise Promenade includes seven new historic and culturally relevant public art installations, designed to share the story of seven cultures that settled in the Central District. These seven cultures include: Duwamish, Jewish, Black/African American, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Italian.
